Yubico Login for Windows supports local authentication scenarios it secures the local login process for local accounts on Windows computers. Yubico Login for Windows is a full implementation of a Windows Authentication Package and a Credential Provider. See Compatible devices section above for determining which key models can be used. Yubico Login for Windows adds the Challenge-Response capability of the YubiKey as a second factor for authenticating to local Windows accounts. We are investigating this issue and advise against upgrading to Windows 11 if MFA with YubiKey is a requirement or pausing use of Yubico Login for Windows until resolved, which currently otherwise requires disabling the Windows Defender Credential Guard. The update prevents Yubico Login for Windows from authenticating to the LSA process.
Caution: Recent updates for Windows 11 have impacted the functionality of Yubico Login for Windows by enabling Windows Defender Credential Guard (Local Security Authority) protections by default.
